Enjoy.......... Sat, 08 May 2010 23:46:16 GMT Euro Ski Challenge 2010 http://www.iconsurfcraft.com/blog.php?id=85 Just got back from Alicante competing in 'Europe's Biggest Ski Race'. They really know how to put on a great event. Standing on a start line with 230 paddlers is quite something! If you haven't been already, get out there next year. This race is virtually on our door step. A short flight with cheap accomodation, car hire and great weather. I was pretty pleased with placing 16th in the open men's category considering the standard of competitors ahead of me. I had to make do with being the third Brit home, with Ivan Lawler pulling into the top ten in 9th place and Glen Eldridge in 13th place. A lot of work to do if I'm to beat them next year! They have certainly laid down the gauntlet for the rest of the British Season. To give you an idea of who we were up against the top 10 consisted of: 1st place - Dawid Mocke - South Africa - World Ocean Ski Champion3rd place - Busto - Spain - Current and 6 times World K1 Marathon Champion4th place - Eric Larsen - Norway - Olympic gold/silver/bronze medalist9th place - Ivan Lawler - GB - 6 times World K1 Marathon Champion Enjoy the short piece of Spanish News footage. Who knows we might got our races in the spotlight one day! See you there next week :-) Mon, 03 May 2010 17:20:23 GMT Tarka Ski Challenge 2010 - Top Day!!!!!!!!! http://www.iconsurfcraft.com/blog.php?id=82 Postponing the race by two weeks was well worth the wait. The conditions couldn't have been any better. A cold start, but not a cloud in the sky and not a breath of wind. The race went off without a fault at 8.30am sharp. The mass start of 50 skis looked quite spectacular. For anyone watching, they were treated to a demonstration of World Class Paddling by Ivan Lawler (6 times World Kayak Marathon Champion). One year we will get 100 skis on the line and really grab the spectators attention! Congratulations to all who took part and many thanks to the safety crews and helpers who make the race happen. Thu, 15 Apr 2010 20:19:18 GMT Tarka Ski Challenge - 18th April 2010 http://www.iconsurfcraft.com/blog.php?id=79 If this weekends weather is anything to go by next Sunday's race will be awsome! It's an early start, but it was last year and we had 77 boats on the line! Let's see if we can make it 100 this year! That would make it the biggest ski race in Britain by far and one of the biggest in Europe. Please see revised details on the Tarka Ski Challenge PDF below. Look forward to seeing you there! The met office forecast for tomorrow is 20 mph winds with upto 38 mph gusts and increasing. I'd rather make the decision now while you still have time to plan the rest of your weekend. Happy Easter and we'll look forward to seeing you in two weeks time. :-) Final details of race on 18th April to follow. Excellent condition. £750.00 Wed, 24 Feb 2010 23:20:02 GMT The Icon Ocean Ski is taking shape! http://www.iconsurfcraft.com/blog.php?id=75 So, its time to tell you a little more about our new Icon Ocean Ski. We have been working closely with Rob Feloy (a renowned kayak designer) to produce a ski that can compete with the best on the market! Obviously the proof will be in the pudding and it won't be long before we know if we have cracked it! At present, Ocean Skis are in an 'unlimited class' which means that no design rules or restrictions apply - for now anyway! So in theory you can go as long and narrow and as light as you want. However there are some obvious practical restrictions, minimum beam being one ... you do have to be able to sit in / on the ski ....displacement being another. We've done our sums as I guess has everyone else. As you may have realised most unlimited class skis are approx. 6.4M x 0.45M ... this is the resulting compromise between maximising waterline length, optimal beam / length ratios, minimising wetted surface area etc. All fine and relatively simple for flat water racing. However, optimising hull shape for differing paddling conditions becomes much more interesting .... and less precise. With the new Icon Ocean ski we have brought together many years of boat and kayak design, along with many years of paddle racing and ocean paddling experience. We have decided to design the new ski to excel in down wind / wave running conditions. As you can see from our graphics, we've looked closely at many features. These include rocker lines, cross section shapes, flat tail sections with sharp chine lines and a transom stern. The concept is to stay with the pack in the flat or upwind, turn down sea, pull onto the runners and your away! If all goes to plan our plug should be complete by the end of February. It won't be long and we'll be loading pictures of the first Icon Ocean Ski and indeed the first Ocean Ski to be made in GB!! Fri, 19 Feb 2010 22:24:01 GMT Welcome to the new ICON SURFCRAFT website http://www.iconsurfcraft.com/blog.php?id=74 Welcome to our long awaited new website! You will see some great improvements straight away and many additions to it as we get stuck into 2010. Firstly, we want to thank all our customers that took the leap of faith and chanced the new 'kid on the block' ICON ski last year. We hope you've been really happy with your ski and been equally happy with the service we have provided. Just as a reminder, your feedback is greatly appreciated (positive or negative). The good stuff we can build on, and the rest we can improve on. 2009 was our first full year in production. The ICON brand is now a regular sight on the starting line. To help grow our sport, ICONSURFCRAFT have already donated two 'Surfspec' skis and and a £250 voucher as prizes. So far the lucky winners have been Freddie Hedger, Steve Hardman and Neil Johnson.
